Oliva has been home to many cultures and settlements since the paleolithic times
including Greek, Roman and Moorish civilizations. The old town has many historic
buildings, including an inn now restored as the Casa de la Cultura
and a museum housed in the Church of Saint Maria. The house is in the
Raval or moorish part of the city, centred around the church
of St Roc, where the mosque and minaret once stood. In this area you will find
distinctive sixteenth century houses built into the side of the hill (right).

The tourist office organises walks through the historic parts of the town,
including Calle San Isidro where the house is situated. There is a beautiful sandy
beach which is perfect for long lazy barbecues. To get to the beach you drive
1 mile through the orange groves that surround the town, or there is a regular
beach bus from the main square. You can walk along the beach to the more lively
area towards Piles which has bamboo beach bars with cold beer in the summer. There
is a beach side golf course at Oliva Nova. Oliva Town Tourist Information
